I, too, am perplexed about how Giuliani ended up at the top of my Republican matches. ~_~ I'm not at all surprised to see Kucinich and Edwards and Gravel at the top of my list.

I just want to offer my prayers and good wishes for a happier 2008 for everyone. If you had a pretty happy 2007, then I hope your 2008 is even better. And if your 2007 was crappy or only okay--then I hope things look up in 2008.

Peace and love.

So, there's a movement afoot right now called 40 Days for Life. It's purpose is to bring about the end of abortion via things like protests and prayer.

While I do agree that it would be nice to live in a world where abortion isn't necessary as an option, I don't think we're ever going to make it to that perfect of a world. Too many women are raped; too many women without adequate resources find themselves pregnant; too many uneducated men and women don't take the correct precautions when having sex, regardless of whether they're married or not; too many people object to giving birth themselves under any circumstances due to beliefs about things like the environment and overpopulation; and so on. No two situations are completely identical, and sometimes things like adoption are just not an option (for example, medical reasons for terminating a pregnancy).

So, I would like to alert everyone to I Am Emily X, a blog of a Planned Parenthood worker and activist. She's blogging about her experiences during these 40 days. And on her sidebar, she has a link one can click to thank the workers at one's local Planned Parenthood. I urge you all to do so; too often, these workers suffer through picketing and protests and all kinds of negative attention (with some workers even being followed to their homes and harassed there!!). Too often, they do not feel the gratitude of the community they've served past the point where the service was given. If you've ever used contraceptives or considered abortion or had use of one of PP's other services, or even if you just know someone who has, or even if you are just grateful for the work PP has done for women's reproductive and sexual choices, health, and freedom, please send them a note of gratitude. It doesn't take very much time and can be completed on the computer via the internet.

And think about this: wouldn't you find it really cool to come into work some day and find your desk covered with thank-you notes? I think we'd all enjoy that. So brighten someone else's day--thank your local Planned Parenthood workers. :)

Peace and love.

First, did you know that there is a pirate university? Well, yeah, it's a "just for fun" thing, but the questions on the test are pretty difficult if you're going into the "Final Exam" uninformed. I thought it was amusing. :) Maybe someday I'll get my 'pirate degree.' ;)

Next, I have found my chimp likeness:

Okay, I'll admit it: I've been watching Kid Nation. I was intrigued by the pre-season commercials, which promised that the kids would build their own town, free of adults.

That didn't exactly pan out. )

Your home is a

Spawn-camping Wizard's Stronghold

Your kitchen is manned by a team of Keebler Drow Elves. There's a pantry with emergency backup caffeinated beverages. You also have some breakfast cereals in there, but you haven't had breakfast since last Spring. Your master bedroom is decorated to look like the treetop village of the Galadhrim. Your study has every fantasy novel ever written, including multiple editions of the Silmarillion and advance copies of Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition. One of your garages houses your Hummer, and others contain your H2, and H3... with room for an H4, if they ever invent one.

Your home also includes a roost for griffons. You've never actually seen a griffon, but you keep the roost ready anyway. Your guests enjoy your home theater with hi-def plasma screen TV, and the thrones you watch it from. Outside is the moat that protects your home from goblin invaders and extended family.

And, you have a pet -- a unicorn named "Shadowhooves".

Below is a snippet of the blueprints:

55 questions

Tired of those same old 55 questions about me surveys? Well here are 55 I guarantee you've never answered.

1. Is your second toe longer than your first?
No, and Sharon thinks that's weird. :)

2. Do you have a favorite type of pen?
I tend to like the RSVP pens. Those, and metallic blue gel pens--those pens made college notes almost fun. ;)

3. Look at your planner for Sept 14, what are you doing?
Working, then attending a church committee meeting, then going home

4. What color are your toenails usually?
Clear? I don't remember the last time I painted them.

And more delightful questions-and-answers! )

of this! Minnesota is reducing the cost of birth control:

Minnesota enacted a new law this month that will make birth control more affordable and accessible. The law gives family-planning clinics the right to buy birth control at bulk rates through cooperative purchasing agreements. Peg LaBore, executive director of a Minnesota family-planning clinic, estimated that the legislation will reduce the price of contraception "by at least 50 percent," according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Go read the rest. And then lobby for more states to do this!

Peace and love.

Homosexual/Bisexual/Heterosexual test from [info]idc_chan

Your Score: Straight Preference

You scored 14 (-52 being completely gay, 0 being bisexual, and 52 being completely straight)

You are not exclusively heterosexual, but you prefer the opposite sex over the same sex. While you might be willing to fool around with the same sex to some extent, you would go all the way with the opposite sex. If you are sexually inexperienced, it is possible that this could change after you do some experimenting.

Well, given my political and religious views, I suppose it's not surprising that I fell on the straight side of bi. And, well, I did grow up wanting to be a boy and thinking that bisexual love was the most perfect kind. :)

Peace and love.
